Growing and Learning Together

Robins

Welcome to Robin Class!

Robins Class teacher is Miss Saunders. The teaching assistants are Mrs Gent, Mrs Bell and Miss Salt.

Teaching and Learning

Every day we do phonics and maths on the carpet. In the afternoons we do topic related learning and activities.

A typical day in the Foundation Stage Unit involves lots of time to explore our different areas of learning both indoors and out. Our provision is set up so that we will aim to use the outdoors as much as possible. In Foundation Stage we enjoy learning through play and we have lots of areas set up to explore that help us learn and develop.

The areas we have inside are: sand, water, investigation, gardening, writing, phonics, maths, reading, construction, creative, role play and making it. We are fortunate enough to have a lovely outdoor area and this continues to be developed. The areas we have outside are: water, investigation, maths, reading, writing, creative and construction. We also have a mud kitchen and dining area and a natural construction area. This year we have finally had a new sand pit installed!

Every Thursday we take part in a Yoga Bugs session with an external provider. Abbie teaches us lots of new yoga movements linked to stories and we have a great time!

Every Friday afternoon we have P.E, during the winter months this is in the School hall. As the weather improves in Spring we go outdoors, as much as possible, to do sports and PE games and these sessions are taken by our School P.E Coach, Mrs Start.

Reading

Alongside our phonics teaching children have a reading book to take home with them (Book bags are available from the office for a small price). A phonics homework card is also posted out on Tapestry.

We encourage you to read daily with your child to help build up their reading skills. When you have read with your child you can write about it in their reading record and then on their book change day we will send a new book home.  If you read with your child three times a week for 5 weeks then your child will get a free book from our library treasure chest!

Assessment

For every child we use the Tapestry Online Learning Journey to record their learning and achievements. You can even add your own observations and comment on the ones we add.  For more information, please see a member of staff.

Trips

We try to make our topics as enjoyable as possible and invite visitors into school for hands on learning experiences. We enjoy going out on visits to local places such as All Saints Church and we aim to go on two trips a year to places that support our teaching of our topics. In the past we have been to Sherwood Pines, White Post Farm and East Midlands Airport.

PE Kit

PE kits are to be worn on a Friday for PE with Mrs Start. Your child must be in the correct PE kit of navy shorts/jogging bottoms and a white top. If your child is not in the correct kit, we will change them.

Snack

Each day we have a morning snack which is a free piece of fruit. All children under 5 years old also receive free milk. Once a child turns 5 Years old parents can pay for this. In the afternoon session we also have another snack. This snack is charged at 20p per day (£1 a week) and we have snacks such as cheesy crackers, yoghurts or toast.

Water Bottles

We ask that parents send a full water bottle to school with your child every day. As a Healthy School we encourage the children to drink water to stay hydrated and to be healthy.
