Applying for a place at our school

We welcome visits from parents and children at any time of the year.  Please ring or call to make an appointment for a visit to the school, when we will be very pleased to show you around and answer any questions.

The school is part of a co-ordinated scheme for admissions in Derbyshire. From 14th November, parents of children who were born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 are invited to make an application to the LA, expressing their preference for primary schools. Admissions are dealt with by the Local Authority. (Telephone: 01629 537474)

Website: www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions

Applications must be submitted or returned by 15th January 2016.  Priority will continue to be given to children who live in the normal area served by the school and/or have brothers and sisters attending the school. Parents will be informed of their child's allocated school place on 18th April 2017 and the schools will then be informed of their prospective numbers.

Ripley Infant School will follow the Derbyshire County Council’s coordinated admission scheme for primary schools. The coordinated scheme covers pupils starting school in Reception Class and for in-year admissions.  A copy of the scheme and the admissions criteria is available in the Derbyshire County Council’s “How to apply for a place at Primary School” publication.  The criteria states:

Community and voluntary controlled schools Individual pupils who have a Statement of Special Education Needs which can best be met in the school will be given priority where so determined by the county council in consultation with the governing body.

In deciding on admissions to all community and voluntary controlled schools in Derbyshire, the following order of priority will be adopted.

  1. ‘Looked after’ children
  2. Children living in the normal area served by the school at the time of application and admission (including those living in another council’s area).  For a definition of living in the normal area see note on page 12 in the “How to apply for a place at Primary School” publication or online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions
  3. Children not living in the normal area served by the school but who have brothers or sisters attending the school at the time of their admission.
  4. Other children whose parents have requested a place.

Where in the case of 3,or 4 above, choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, those children living nearest to the school (measured by the nearest available route) will be given preference.

Our current Pupil Admission Number is 60.  The statutory KS1 class size limit is 30.

Derbyshire works on a “one point entry” system. Therefore children begin school in September. However if you feel your child is not ready for full time education then please come and discuss this with our Headteacher. We have a variety of options which you can do. We encourage parents to share any concerns or worries about their child and we tailor our school to your child’s individual requirements.
