Growing and Learning Together

Maths

Miss Saunders and Mrs Riley are our Maths subject leads

At Ripley Infant School we take a mastery approach to our learning in Maths. Our approach enables the children to challenge themselves appropriately, build on prior knowledge and develop the Maths skills they need to succeed in later life. We use White Rose Maths and Primary Stars schemes, delivering all Maths learning in small achievable steps. Teachers use both formative and summative assessment to ensure all children are on track and provide further support for any children who need it. Our children have a wide range of experiences in Maths and we use a variety of manipulatives and representations, which the children use to aid in their understanding and to support the mastery approach.

We also use Fluency Bee to support children's fluency in Maths. These involve daily 10 minute sessions that give children further time to develop and practice their fluency skills. Supporting children to be fluent in Maths is crucial for their success when they move to KS2 and beyond. You can install the 1-minute maths app by White Rose to practice fluency skills at home with your child. The app covers all fluency facts from subitising to number bonds.
